In this post Morrow CEO Tom Riglar speaks with new team member Danny McGrane.
Hi, great to be here!
I’m a React Native Developer, who is lucky enough to be doing one of my main interests in life as a job. I found software engineering two years ago while spending time with a community of digital nomads in Thailand. They worked remote jobs and ran online businesses, so I tried out a few things that would enable me to do the same. Then I stumbled across web and app development and haven’t looked back.
Being a developer has provided me with some great opportunities so far - including working with cryptocurrencies remotely for a company based in Florida, and now with App Sapiens. As we are fast growing app development company, I get to be involved in a lots of different tasks and have never been happier.
It’s been great! I’ve loved looking into all the codebases we are working on, learning new best practices, and architectures such as Uncle Bob’s Clean Architecture. Although fully remote, there is a great atmosphere at App Sapiens and it feels good to be part of the team.
React Native is my favourite tool. I like how I, as one person, can come up with an idea for an app, build it, and deploy it to both app stores with one coding language in a matter of months! Therefore it was my goal to work with the most knowledgeable team in the UK that specialise in React Native and Expo. Morrow are the UK’s only Expo trusted consultancy so I know I’m in good hands!
Not only that, but I had the pleasure of working with Morrow a year ago as a freelancer and was really happy with their values, the emphasis they have on doing things the right way, and the support they give to one another — employees and customers alike.
As Morrow are looking to grow rapidly, perhaps the best thing I bring to the table is my hunger to take on responsibility. My hope is to be a sponge and learn all that Charles (CTO) has to teach me so that we are able to help more and more clients in the coming months and years.
Morrow have an emphasis on great client communication and developers have the opportunity to speak directly with clients. My experience working in brand management might be a useful asset for the client/developer dynamic we have.
My favourite app at the moment has to be Farmdrop: an app that gives people living in cities like myself access to fresh farm food, delivered. Summoning the patterned Farmdrop van is cool in its own right, but the app is next level: aesthetically beautiful, modern, minimalist, and functional.
I’ve recently invested in a new setup. For a long time, I had been using just my MacBook Pro without an external screen. Fortunately now, I’ve invested in a large curved wide screen that has made setup 100% better. My advice would be that there is no investment too large if it's going to make your work easier and more efficient!
Unfortunately at the moment I have a small width desk up against a wall and sometimes leads to some cramps. Once I move out of my small London flat, I will invest in an adjustable standing desk and really take it to the next level! (Pun fully intended!)
Outside work I spend more time working on my own apps and learning new technologies — it’s my hobby after all!
Other then that I enjoy yoga, meditation, and the simple things in life like reading a book at my local coffee shop.
At Morrow, we hire the best up and coming developers across the UK and abroad. By investing in our people, we’ve created a high performing and dynamic team well suited to modern software projects.
